London is the last stop in an epic trip across Britain filmed in remarkable early colour. London was the final stop in a marathon journey around Britain filmed as a series of cinema travelogues. Pioneering filmmaker Claude Friese-Greene brought these picture-postcard scenes to life with a specially-devised colour film process.

1927 wasn’t that long ago but the social changes which swept through Britain with the 20s, the second world war, the 70s and anyhting after that has left the world in general unrecognisable i’m sure. was simply stunning to see how the places i’ve frequented often looked back then.
Wow, seeing London of 1927 come alive in colour like this was quite a remarkable experience.
Hyde Park is tree, grass, some old builds… most of London is massively changed.
Wow.
I ‘ve been to London a few times and it is remarkable how little has changed apart from (of course) the people, cars, stuff like that.
But Hyde Park… it looks exactly alike. Very impressive.
I liked the bit where the Bobby waves the traffic on even though people are still crossing the road. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the London Bridge that we see is not there any more, I believe that it was sold to some American and rebuilt in America and a new bridge was built to replace the old one?
Remarkable footage, I was looking for my Dad and his 3 Brothers and Twin Sister. They lived at Magazine Cottage in Hyde Park, he would have been 10 then.
His Father (My Grandad) was The Caretaker at the Woolwich/Arsenal Magazine, and the Job created a 5 bedroom Cottage with the Job!!!
What a peach of a job in those Days, and what a great upbringing for the Lads, Ive heard many a Tale from them, sadly now all 5 gone !!xxx also the Mass of heads in Petticoat Lane!! wonder how many went to War?
fair enough
I’m English “Realise”
technologically it was a very… very long time ago. you “realize.”
and not long till people will look at our video footage and wonder about our old fashioned lives too. Our time here is fleeting!
you realise that 1927 wasnt that long ago
It’s almost surreal to see this in color – like I’m watching a period film rather than something actually shot in that time.
It’s amazing how London is basically the same.
this was so cool to see, like being in a time machine!
@fabianyee ha! Indeed, mobile bike phone.
excellent film
the first thing i recognized:
do you see any fat people?
Amazing! An historic and cinematic treasure!
@BetamaxLondoner03
Funny how I have prompted such a homely response..you can hardly contain yourself.
You wouldn’t happen to be a local would you?
We never suspected anything else…
Not necessarily. It’s only 83 years ago, and there are many children pictured.
Fantastic footage by the way!
Quite. But don’t waste the truth on these arseholes.
No blacks. God it must have paradise. Now let’s donate all our money to Haiti. What has the world come to?
jews… ?
I presume that the man is Claude Friese-Greene, the film-maker, and that the scene was added as a type of credit.
wow! what an amazing archive!
thanks.
